Fairy Tale – Analysis Proposal

Each person has a right to gain an understanding of the meaning of his life, in order for him to feel happy and integrated in society. The process of understanding the world around us is divided into several phases. Fairy stories are seen as a way to accomplish the above purpose. Snow-white has been chosen for this study due to the above reasons. The researcher wants to uncover the secrets behind the most popular Disney stories and compare the differences between their original versions and the Disney movies. This research aims to identify the differences between the Disney and original versions. It will also analyze how these changes in the Disney version affect children’s attitudes and cultural dimensions. The researcher will combine online resources with his or her own perception of the story to conduct the research.

1937 was a year of revolution for the movie industry, after Walt Disney Animation Studios released their Disney version. Walt Disney’s vision was not understood until the audience saw the film. The animated version, which was released in 2007, was a big success. It captured the attention of the audience and kept them there for a comparatively long time. It was a huge success in every way, and completely changed the perception of the audience about animated characters and stories. The success of this adaptation and transformation of classic fairytales in motion mode sparked a lot criticism. One of the most well-known psychologists describes the Disney version as a form of empty entertainment, denying a beautiful, simplified and interesting version that has deeper meanings and is appealing to both children and young people (Bettelheim 2010, 2010). The original version, however, is the one that he believes contains the true essence. It is important to compare and evaluate the Disney and original versions of the story Snow White, because neither one reflects the true meaning of the original nor does it show loyalty to the original writing. This story, which is considered to be a powerful work by all age groups, clearly defines the impact that the transformed story has on them. Snow white is a well-known fairy tale and is admired worldwide among all age groups. The story is basically about a conflict between a snow-white named girl and her evil, cruel stepmother. Snow white hates her beauty. Both versions show the mirror telling the queen she is fairest. These points were categorized by the Grimm Brothers and Disney versions of the story as similarity grounds where both versions adopt similar conflict in several fascinating ways. The original story is more focused on portraying brutality, cruelty and extremism. However, the Disney version emphasizes the power of love and is less focused on the villainy of the queen. In the original Grimm Brothers version, the evil stepmother of Snow White, the queen, is shown to be cruel. She hates her stepdaughter’s beauty and tries to kill her on three occasions. Snow White succeeds at the third time. Grimm Brothers’ books are thought to contain folktales with even crueler versions. The differences between the published story and the one featured in the movie are obvious. Walt Disney chose to create a less violent version of the tale to capture the audience’s attention, even though his wife and brother were against it, saying people cannot watch cartoons more than 15 minute (Whitley). Snow white was awakened by an apple that fell into her throat as the prince held her coffin. In the Disney version, Snow White is shown waking due to her prince’s kiss. In the Disney version, however, the queen is shown asking only for her daughter’s death. Audiences are perhaps the greatest influence on Disney and pop culture. Disney began in the early 20th century as a cartoon and animation house, aiming to entertain children. These cartoons didn’t follow any themes but were aimed solely at comforting and fun thoughts. Walt Disney, the pioneer of motion pictures, believed that Disney productions should not be based on plots of authenticity but instead a story which could influence and engage a large number of audiences for a repetition of the same experience. The audience was not expecting to be able to understand the plot, but rather the cultural significance. Goofy and other characters reminded people of the Southern states of America, with their cockney accents, good-natured natures, and farmers. Snow White, Rapunzel, and other princesses were not created to accurately represent the original stories. Disney’s influence on the Grimm Tales, which originated in Europe, made them more uplifting and hopeful to appeal to children. This type of Disney cartoon feature was created to make sure that folk tales of modern times are not only entertained but also survive. It has altered the tales of brothers Grim to a significant extent, but created an entirely new genre. In today’s animation, heroes are portrayed in a similar way. An underdog is beaten around by the outside world while exploring their dreams (Zhang & Lauer, 2015). The lady who loves him and encourages him to follow his dreams. Random villains whose ideals of dominance of the world are contrary to their own. When these elements are combined, they create a Disney tale where the hero is always victorious. The story may have different characters, but the main elements and results are the same. We can find a similar story in the modern version of Snow White. She tells a story about a girl who was bullied at home but didn’t give up hope. She sings songs about a future better and believes that love can change the world. Since everyone is bullied, and the main character of the show shows courage, it instills bravery into all the characters. These stories are also a reflection of the current pop-culture (Zhang & Lauer, 2015). Gnome and Juliet (Disney) is a retelling of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. But it doesn’t follow the script exactly. Instead, they change the plot to make their own garden gnome kingdom. The plot of the story remains the same. However, some additions or deletions are made to make it more comical for the audience. The changes to the story portray the cultural shifts from violence to love, which has a positive influence on the children. Disney versions are viewed by researchers as having some detrimental elements. Disney’s perfect princess culture can cause girls to develop complexes and have body-esteem issues. This perfection concept will negatively affect the boys’ expectations, perceptions and imagination. Disney portrayals of Disney characters also have a stereotypical female behavior. This is despite the presence of other real-life role models. Disney is frequently blamed by critics for creating inappropriate role models in stories for the female characters. There are many stories told by Disney, including the stereotype of the damsel or woman in distress and the stereotype of the white knight who comes to her rescue. Even women playing warriors require a man for validation. Disney is just as influential a platform for media as ABC or CNN. It conveys cultural subzones, messages and models to children from around the world. Critics and censors boards need to account for misappropriation of culture in order to develop and screen the plots accurately and fully. Censor boards can and must deal with cultural appropriation to protect viewers and maintain the quality of content. Content that could negatively influence or change their children is sensitive for the audience. The media that influences children and teenagers alike must be controlled and monitored to present a better picture. Disney has attempted to create strong female character like Mulan and Princess Elsa but their stories all revolve around love interests that weren’t reciprocated. Aladdin, Rapunzel and other stories follow the damsel’s tale. This creates the impression that girls need to behave in a girlish or meek manner to be accepted and respected by society. This image has a negative impact on the American people, as well as every other Disney-viewing country. Disney’s efforts to incorporate stories from different cultures and bring people closer together is admirable. Kung Fu Panda explores Chinese folklore and yet the primary character doesn’t speak with any accent. The roles are often whitewashed to make them more appealing to an American audience. However, this trend must change to ensure the industry’s future. We have noticed that the popularity of pop culture has increased and the people are now more informed than before. (Reynolds 2017, 2017) This increased awareness has caused people to become more aware of the impact movies have on perceptions. They are also much more vocal in their criticisms about media that is projected by these means. So, even movies that never tried to be political accurate, must adapt to reflect the problems and scenarios of the present. Walt Disney’s 1937 tale is a great entertainment, but it contains many important messages. The story begins by highlighting the depression that the poor and the underprivileged feel when they are looked down upon by upper-class or rich people. Snow white is an inspiration for those who are underprivileged. She helps them to see themselves, overcome depression and create or find their place. It is no longer the case that the United States has only whites as government officials, which led to the development of inferiority amongst blacks and other communities who are poorer. Snow white’s depression was clearly shown in the story as she contemplated her glass coffin during the rejuvenation phase and the sleep phase. The kiss of the prince was used as a metaphor for the restoration of virtue. The mirror represents the regulatory agencies who are responsible for creating and re-creating our perceptions. You can’t know the truth unless you are in a situation that reveals the whole picture. The story has a deeper significance and impacts our culture and development. Fairy tales are the most effective way for children to learn. The stories are a way to develop the children’s intelligence, their thought patterns and their attitudes. Disney’s version is better than Grimm’s brother’s because of its reduced cruelty, hate, and fighting. The stories influence the child’s perception of cultural and gender values. They also affect their behavior, thoughts and actions. Children are drawn to the characters of these stories and begin to find commonalities with them in order to act the way they saw the characters behave. It is crucial to view the stories critically in order for them to be able to integrate and engage the audience. This includes children. The study’s subject matter is that both versions follow different perspectives but are still important in the development of young children. When parenting children, it’s important for them to know how to apply different approaches (Reynolds 2017, 2017). Snow White is one example of a movie that has shifted its focus away from accuracy and towards a positive message. The positive images in movies help to bring positivity into the industry.
